Whole House Water Filter Installation in Quinns Rocks
A Quinns Rocks homeowner wanted filtered water from every tap in the house, including the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry, without paying to filter the water that goes onto the garden. Here’s how Wayne set it up.
The family wanted the whole house water filter system changed over because they were noticing calcium build up around pipe joints. Plus the water felt hard and “squeaky” when showering.
The family was also purchasing bottled water and the cost of that alone was getting out of control.
The family didn’t like the taste of the tap water, thinking it tasted disgusting. They were also concerned about the levels of chlorine and other chemicals in the water.
The brief: filter the house, not the garden
Wayne started by walking the property with the client to agree where the filter unit would sit. The front wall gave easy access for cartridge changes and kept the unit close to the incoming main.
The client wanted filtered water for the house only, with the garden reticulation left on unfiltered scheme water. That’s usually the smart choice. Reticulation can use more water than the rest of the house combined, and running it through the filters would wear out cartridges much faster without any benefit to the lawn.
The installation
Wayne cut into the water main and plumbed the system so the house supply runs through the filters while the reticulation line stays separate. Fittings installed:
- An isolation valve, so the filters can be serviced or bypassed without shutting off water to the whole property.
- Backflow protection, which stops water from inside the property flowing back into the mains supply.
- The 3-stage filter system, mounted on the front wall.
What each stage does
- 5 micron sediment filter. Catches sediment, sand, silt, rust, dirt and other particles before they reach the next stages or the home’s appliances.
- Carbon filter. Reduces chlorine, odours, VOCs and pesticides, which is where most of the taste improvement comes from.
- Endocrine disruptor filter. Designed to reduce PFAS and endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as BPA.
We chose the AquaCo Premium 3 stage water filter, due to its price and ability to stop sediment, remove chlorine and PFAS compounds.
Why a stainless steel cover?
The filters sit behind a 316 marine-grade stainless steel frame and cover. In a coastal suburb like Quinns Rocks, that grade is important because it resists salt air far better than standard stainless.
The cover also shades the plastic filter housings from direct sun. That keeps the water inside cooler in summer and stops UV breaking down the housings over time.
Plus it looks a lot tidier on a front wall than bare filter canisters.
The result
The installation date was around October 2025.
Since then the family has noticed that the shower screens have stayed cleaner and don’t require as much heavy cleaning – they even feel cleaner.
Steve’s wife Tash (homeowners) says that she feels she has softer skin and hair.
But the main benefit the whole family has noticed is better tasting water from the tap and they no longer buy bottled water for drinking.
